Community Development: ISF libraries get computers
We work closely with community and village leaders to make sure our education centres do not exist in a vacuum, but serve to lift up the wider community. Our goal is to create a good foundation for the children in our programme and opportunities for their families to develop their skills to change their own lives.
We established community and mobile libraries in the areas where our students live to foster an appreciation of education and a habit of reading among our students, their families, and the wider community. The libraries also provide children with a safe place for enhancing their learning and to meet their friends.
We recently trained four of our librarians on how to use a computer so we could introduce computers into our libraries to give community members opportunities to read more stories on screen and enjoy movies. The training took place on 20 March and gave the librarians an introduction to how a computer works. Four of our libraries have already received a computer and we look forward to seeing the new learning opportunities they’ll bring.
